dear daisy,
i took my lunch watching video games for fun - as if they were movies. i do not play video games (although all my brothers are hardcore gamers - my last encounter with video game was nintendo, playing super mario, ninja turtles, prince of persia, need for speed (the earliest version) and street fighters which now had turned into movies.
no man's sky - is the latest to my addition. and my enthusiasm for interstellar science and exploration. i do not truly understand how the game works, but i find it funny that it gave you the kind of 'call of duty' motivational quotes when u die - and in addition to science fiction writers, scientists (like the famous carl sagan) or philosopher - jaden smith's infamous and stupid tweets are going to make appearance - so you won't be too upset about dying too soon (cause what's more upset than jaden appearance in after earth and tweets.
today also marked the burning day of juno's mission to jupiter, the largest planet in the system with at least 67 moons. europa, one of the closest moon to jupiter has the most resemblance to earth's primitive condition, which draw possibilities for future earthlings' residence.
i was in my undergraduate when i watched cassini flyby the planet on its way to saturn - that was my first read about titan (one of saturn's moons with atmosphere that is less hostile for human habitat). last week, NASA released the closest, higher magnification of jupiter with earth sized aurora lighted up the north pole - captured by hubble telescope.
as for today, the 4th of july, juno will fire its main engine for 35 minutes at the planet polar orbit around the gas giant to probe beneath the obscuring cloud cover and learn about the auroras.
i am a sucker for interstellar and space exploration movies - therefore this is a historical event for me and one of the greatest scientific achievements. i watched NASA's last space mission at cape canaveral and thought that would be the last spacewalk i would ever witness.
but i was wrong, there were chris hadfield, known as the singing astronaut (ground control to major tom, a david bowie's song), scott kelly and last two weeks, there was tim peake - who safely landed on earth in soyuz with two other cosmonauts.
my parents brought me to cape canaveral when i was three year old and took pictures of me, touching the space suit - just like E.T. on its first encounter with drew berrymore. perhaps, that exposure ignited my love for science and extra terrestrial exploration.
jupiter, was first observed by galileo galilei - who was the first to suggest that earth is not the center of the universe, and was imprisoned for life for contradicting the common belief of that time. also, the moons of jupiter were called gallilean moons.
let's just not miss today - and set the time 10.30 p.m. eastern for the fire that will light up gigantic auroras of the largest, and beautiful planet jupiter.
